Lalu yadav and Bay area

San Francisco; the city itself gives half introduction. The city has different identities; the city of gay, the city of sex, multicultural city, city of immigrants so on so on. The city, which is located in the west coast, is one of the top tourist destinations of the United States. But it will be injustice to introduce the city by limiting on above words.

Because of its cultural diversity and geographically being centre of California, the city has been over publicized as one of the delightful city of the world. It is not strange to see gay couple hanging around the city, kissing on the corner and doing strange fashion with bleach hair and tattoos. Night life is another attraction of San Francisco. Street club, bra bars, message centers and so on.

More over, the internet revolution has sparked software business on its premises like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. As a result, the city popularly known as the bay area, has got “Silicon Valley” as the headquarters of the worlds web. Being gate way of the modern technologies and software business has contributed this city as one of the hottest destination for the businessman and tourists.

The history of the city is itself interesting. The bay area has majority of Chinese, Latino, Korean and Indian. It is said that the city was built by the Chinese immigrants who came in the ship on 60s. During the American industrialization era Chinese immigrants built the city. Like wise, Punjabis were brought to build the railway slippers. But now Indians are not limited on those jobs they are pioneer of the software and leading workforce of the Silicon Valley. That is why; the prospective to judge Indian immigrants has changed drastically. All Indian is consider as a computer engineers and respected as well. Many employers of big malls were learned to say “Nameste” and “Sukria”.

Many Motels, smaller than hotels and less expensive, are owned by Patel. So most of the budget travelers make joke that Motel aka Patel. Patel are from the Gujarat, India and has got lot fame in hospitality business. Similarly, numbers of Indian restaurants and groceries stores are growing. It is very common to see Indian women wearing sari and with sports shoe and walking around. As numbers of Indians are growing the system of town is also being as Indians. Generally, in United States law is very strict but even though Indian employers are the first to break such rules. It is strictly prohibited to exploit the employee by using more than 8 hours a day. The law requires giving 10 minutes break after every two hours and half an hour after four hours. But none of the Indian employers follow these rules. They are maximum exploiting Mexican, south Asian and other cheap labors. Nepali workers are in high priority. Since they are laborious and they never complain. Either in restaurants, motels, or any grocery stores Indian labor rules applies. Most of the Indians they have left their homeland almost a decade ago but still they have not give up their attitude and “BIHAR” laws. Indian entrepreneurs have given millions of people jobs and new generation has gained the label of “highly skilled” people of United States, they have not been able to change themselves from their Indian mentality. So I always remember one Joke about Lalu Prasad Yadav of BIHAR. Once there was a team from Japan in Bihar to study about the system. After completion of their study Japanese team purposed Lalu to hand over the Bihar to Japan for five years they will make Bihar like a Japan. In response to this proposal Lalu Yadav told them give us Japan for five days we will make Japan like a Bihar.

Gay and the bay

It was Friday morning, while I was returning from night shift, I encountered with Ashish (my friend) on parking lot. He looks sad and tired. I was not different than him. We exchanged our smiles but both of us were not happy even being at home. He proposed me to hang around on some exciting place. I was so tired and hoping to have good sleep even though I was starving to enjoy some where and to build up intimacy with nature. In America especially in Sanfrancisco, it is difficult to get a company of man, since every one will think that they are gay. We people are used to hang around with our brothers and friends but here people will not think like that. If two men will walk around every one will point out to their child that lets see the gay.

It was not difficult me to understand his hesitation. “Damn care, let’s go”. I forced him to give me company. He purposed me to take some extreme adventure. I easily agreed with him. So we started to surf on internet for hot air balloon, sky diving, helicopter sightseeing etc. But sadly all of them informed us that we need to book at least 24 hours earlier. Since the holiday season outing was busy on this time. So we finally decided to take a tour of fleet on Sanfranciso bay.

Instead of sleeping after whole night working, we were ready to drive towards Sanfranciso bay for refreshment. I was new driver for free way (high way in Nepal) since we have to maintain the speed of 70 m / hrs on 5/6 lanes wide roads. If a single step is missed we will be missed from this earth forever.

We were heading towards fisherman wharf, the down town, with Nepali music” bairod ko bato ma taxi gududai “. It was sunny and bright day. Almost afternoon, the sun was bright but not warm like in my balcony back to Nepal. I remembered my high school days while I used to study in my balcony with radish and salt. ‘Kausi”, top of my house, used to pack for tanning during winter season. I prepared high school and even college exams with my brothers and sisters in law by taking sun bath. We used to spend whole day for study either by lying or sitting on chair. Later mother used to enter with some special package of fruits to distribute us like an orange and nuts. I still remember that an orange, which I brought from Muglin was enough for week long. “Dai right linus na” (brother take a right) from Ashish awake me from the Nepalese dream in a second. I took right on Folsom road to follow the traffic which was extremely heavy on the road. Perhaps of holiday season there was difficult to get parking in bay area. Finally I got a place to park by paying $ 4 per/hr, extremely expensive but no way.

It was my first experience in the sea. So I was excited and curious too. We take the tickets for fleet on $ 23 each. While waiting on line I saw many Indian couples were standing in front of us, wearing kurtha, jacket and big boots. They were trying to kiss their husband and husband were also trying to touch their beloved ones time to time, but any one could clearly read that they were being shy and hesitating to follow the westerns. Once a husband could able to touch his wife’s check he used to feel pride and look around to announce that he made it. I was scanning some couples on similar way. When I looked back I noticed that some people were pointing us I was surprised to be scapegoat my self. Soon I realized that we were been example of gay couple. We both feel ashamed in a second but I did not take that seriously. Ashish knows that society better than me since he is senior in America than me even being junior in age. I read some shadow in his face perhaps he was regretting to be with me on that moment.

The water of the sea was blue and cold which was making waves because of the fleets movement. The fleet took a round of golden gate bridge, the giant structure and proud of Sanfranciso, with chill and fresh air. In a while, I did not feel that I am in America since I found everywhere around me were either Indian or Chinese. The person who was the captain of the ship was also Chinese- origin. There was continuous briefing about the structure like golden gate bridge, bay bride and Sanfrancisco downtown while we were approaching. The bottom line of the description I found was the contribution of Chinese immigrants to build up the Sanfrancisco bay area. I paid more attention to take pictures rather than listening the briefing. Ashish and I took several pictures on different poses and action. We were behaving as a very good friend perhaps that was more than enough to label our passenger fellow that we are the gay couple. I did not take that seriously but I found the guilty on my friends face. So he escaped from the floor . Perhaps, he was trying to prove that he is normal man not a gay, who is always interested to develop intimacy with beautiful girls.

He expressed all of his anger while grabbing the crab. I found that crab is quiet popular food on that area eventhough, I choose the soup on the French bread to normalize my hunger. But later, I could not stop my self from grabbing the crab. It was awesome to see a live crab scanning humans’ stomach for their final destination . Once I started to follow Ashish to pull out the soft meat inside the hard cover of crab I found the taste was not so awe full which I assumed earlier, but surprisingly soft and delicious. But I was amazed to see the live crabs trapping inside a narrow box suffering and suffocating for water to be a meal of human beings. I regretted my self to be a part of hypocrite society which will never tired to give speech about animal rights.

What I saw in worlds capital

Most probably all of us well known about the contribution of Right brothers. I was always curious that how come people were able to think and proved that we also can fly like birds? After visiting the air and space muesum of Washinton DC I learned a lot of things about the aeroplane and saw video footage of right brothers when they tried first time to fly. Now I am satisfied like a old hindu couple after visiting "char dham" on their old days. The picture is the dommy of right brother which material they used to fly first time in history. It was quiet success at that time but interesting news was scientist tried to copy down the same process last year, which right brothers tried hundred years ago on 100 anniversary, but they were failed to do that.

Capitol building, supposed to be worlds powerhouse. I found that it is consider as a symbole of United States. So I thought why should not get chance to keep memory ?

Uddesha ke linu udi chunu chandra eka" Our great poet Laxmiprasad Devkota has said many years ago when people have not started their mission to moon. There was always curiousity in my mind when I heard that the America was in moon. How come that was possible was always big question in my mind. I was happy to see the apollo 11 spacecraft used by American to go in space. I could not understand all the techniques how they were able to reach in moon but I did not miss the chance to take the picture at least to be happy myself.

Who will not be interested to shoot the picture with an American president ?

History is written by winers. Who wins they will write the history, looser always frightened to write it. Thousands of people gives their lives for the nation and well being of future generation. But this doesnot work all the time. I heard lot about the vietnam war but never realized that the loss. When I was in vietnam memorial of Washinton DC the list of dead people were almost in 50 stone plates. Many people were searching the name of their family members among the 48,000 peoples list. Which was really shocking picture of war. No one achieved significant thing from that war except long lists of contributors.

Every body knows that the being president of United states and trying to lead the world is not easy job. They will receive support and critisim from the people equally. But the bottom line is who is not satisfied with him can protest infront of his palace "white house". Perhaps this is the best example of democracy, which is very rare in my country on present situation.

Experiencing Canada

Sliding on snow with the help of long blades are the basic principle of ski. But it is not enough definition of ski for Canadian . It is the issue of prestige as well as passport of being a true Canadian. Montreal, the city of Quebec province, has developed intimacy with ice games since it has snow for almost six months. Most of the people from city would like to spend their weekend on skis. It was my seventh month to be here in Montreal and I heard a lot about the charm of this game but even though I was not able to go there. Finally last weekend I got that chance to experience x-country ski on estern township of Quebec .

I did not have any prior experience of ski neither I had any skill to do it but eventhough I was excited to take part. I was not afraid to fall down on piles of snow but actually I was hoping to do that.Probably, I was mad to be on snow and blast of fun. It was snowing and the visibility was so poor on the ski route. Even though my group, including scholars from ten different countries, had great enthusiasm to learn the skill of ski. The route was not so difficult what I thought before. It was perfectly design for ski ,almost 4.5 km long. First few minutes was flat area and then slope and again flat. Probably the flat areas were for preparing and, down hills were for real enjoyment. We all started from same point but it was quiet difficult to meet the friends on the way except on big down hills. Earlier, there were some instructions from the guide ,which we were following. It was easier to understand but hard to apply. First few minutes were quiet difficult but later legs were moving automatically.

Some of my friends gave up just after few minutes. Many of them broke the snow poles while supporting their bodies. Some felt hard to walk by the blades but luckily I did not face any thing wrong except some minor accidents. More over I supported one of my friend from South Africa by giving my one snow pole since he had broken both. Cold weather, snowing and poor visibility but eventhough strong will power guided me to complete that route. Many of my friends were tired after completing that route but I was not satisfied from that much. To be frank, that aroused my interest.
After taking lunch I decided to continue on more challenging route. Our guide, he supported me to go again. That time we followed more harder route than previous one, more down hills and slippery. It was unbelievable experience flying like in sky.Out side temperature was -15 degree but my body was being wet because of sweating. My mind was concentrate not to fall on hair raising down hills. When I passed the slopes I used to fill that I am moving like a rail on track, speed but smooth and balanced. This time the route was 8 km long, near about twice than previous one but eventhough I felt that was too short.

By the end, my legs were so tired and shaking but eventhough I was so excited to try some more down hills. It was only 5.30 pm. My body was warm and full of sprit. I was thinking to ask my guide, who was a little bit a head in zigzag trail, about to continue. Couples of minute later, I met him taking rest in one point but with on sad mood. Before expressing my plan, he explained me that his legs could not compete with me. I was surprised and proud for seconds that I did excellent performance, but later knew that he has lost his left knee on one big accident during the olympic prepartion of ski.The substituted metal knee started to hurt him . When I knew that I started to feel cold and my whole enthusiasm was lost. I could not open my mouth to request him for further.

About the Cartoons of Muhamad

Publication of cartoons about the Muhamad in Danish news paper has borned lots of anger in Muslim world. The media from all over the world are daily showing different rallies and protests done by the Muslims around the world. The news paper which was published those cartoons has already apologised with the Muslim community about the publication. But the people those who believes in Islam are being anger day by day and not satisfied from this. They are demanding formally apologised by the government. The case was nearly solved but after the re publication of cartoons by other news papers from many European countries made this issue more critical. The debate about whether it should be published or not is not solved yet, eventhough some newspapers from the North America are also trying to republish it.

The news papers which published those cartoons are claiming these as a part of press freedom. On the other hand side, the Muslim community are blaming the westerner for domination of their Islam religion and attacking on personal beliefs. So they wants not to repeat such case in future and wants to hear the apologise from respective countries, which they denied. The question raised here, Who is right and who is wrong?

This is of course very hard to answer. But even though I think both of them are right in their position.

European countries, who have very long history of press freedom and rights. Many scholars, writers and activist have sacrified thier lives for the name of freedom of speech and expression. They fought with their autocratic rulure in the past to return their rights. As a result, the rights including speech and expression has been guaranteed in such countries. The law does not give the ruler to control the press, since it is directly connected with the every rights of people as well as pace of society. Now the government can not do any thing to control, order or seize the press. The government doesnot represent the press like in developing and middle east countries. But the people from middle east and other Muslim countries are demanding to react by the government like in their countries, which could be a step to back the country and against their historical achievement of rights.

On the other hand side, the people who are protesting against those cartoons by giving reason that they hurt them.Which is quiet understood. Every one has a right to belief some thing. No one will bear or could tolerate if any thing is happend to encroach their rights. Some one has says that your liberty ends when his nose begains, which means every one has limited area where he could enjoy his freedom and while any one is enjoying own freedom they must respect other too.

So, I believe that both of them are right on thier position but only the missing thing is that none of them are trying to understand each other. There is a big gap between them. How much the western society is free and have right to expression is unbelievable for the people from middle east and developing countries. Like wise, how much the value of religion and their identity is worthy for those people are fully misunderstood by the westerners. As a result, the gap of East and West has created a big hurricane, mixed of anger and emotion. Instead of trying to understand those issues the government of respective Islamic countries are closing their diplomatic mission from the west. In the mean while, west is also showing their power rather than trying to pursude the issue.

The class of civilization which was underground for many years has came in the front once again. This incident has forced to lead all the Muslim nation against the west and seems that the west vs. rest principle has borned. On the other hand side, the growing population of Muslims in western countries and increasing involvement of muslims in crime and terroism has became the headache for European countries. The roits in France, bombing in London and Sweden, and increasing numbers of conflict with muslim community in Denmark has success to give the wrong impression on westerns. They were on the way to control these problems but were failed yet. In the mean while the case of cartoons has aroused the supremacy of native people.

In a nutshsell, the war of civilization never ends on this way. Neither west nor east will able to do progress untill they will continue to dominate each other. Like wise, It will be a utopia for the east that west should follow them. So only the solution a head is to minimize such cases as much as possible and try to increase north- south and east- west dialouge not only in the government level but also within civil society, scholars and even religious level. Exchange the dialouge between them and obviously respecting each others feeling and faith could be the best startegy for forthcoming days.
